Birth & Post-PartumBirth & Post-partum
When labour begins you contact your midwife who will guide you as to when to go to the birth centre and she will meet you there. Once the baby is born, you and your midwife decide when it is safe and appropriate for you to go home. On average, women stay for 3-4 hours after delivery and a follow-up is conducted at home by the midwife the same or next day. If need be, you and your midwife can stay longer and there is a room for the midwife to sleep in.
Each room has a large birthing tub, 60"x 60"x 24", and we have extensive experience with water births. You can ask women who have had a water birth and they will most likely say that they would never do it any other way. We are in the process of doing a retrospective study on the thousands of water births that took place at the Westview Health Centre. Please follow the link to Water Births to learn more.
