Transfer

If a complication arises during labour and/or delivery, your midwife will arrange a transfer to a hospital. If it is safe and there is time, you would go by car and if not, an ambulance will be called in. 

The Lucina Centre is in close proximity to the Misericordia but the time it takes to transfer is dependent on the availability and location of the ambulance. Until other arrangements are in place, you are responsible for the ambulance fee, which may be covered by your insurance.

At the Birth Centre, we have all the emergency equipment set up to deal with emergencies in the same manner as a home birth. There are no obstetricians or doctors in the building and no c-section capability.
