Kerstin Gafvels

Graduated from nursing in Sweden 1977 and immigrated to Canada in 1984. She became interested in midwifery after the birth of her second child and she returned to Sweden to complete her midwifery degree in 1990. Kerstin has had the opportunity to explore child birth from different perspectives by; developing and teaching Prenatal Yoga classes for a few years, working in a Women’s Health Clinic at the Northeast Health Center; caring for social high risk and new immigrant women and by working in Nunavut as a Maternal Newborn Health Services Consultant for the Government of Nunavut. Kerstin was instrumental in moving Inuit midwifery implementation and education forward. Kerstin strives to facilitate a broad and holistic approach to childbirth and recently completed the HypnoBirthing instructor course.
